Universal Teen Scholarship Program

UTSP Application 2016 Universal Teen is a scholarship based program established by the Women of Color Cultural Foundation, Inc. (WOCCF). The purpose of the program is to provide a supportive and congenial environment for self awareness, personal growth and respect for others from diverse backgrounds. The program helps to nurture and build positive scholastic achievement, creativity, healthy living and community involvement. It also promotes self confidence, poise, and effective communication skills. The objectives are to:

  • Provide a forum to teach life skills (e.g., career essentials, financial management, social awareness, etc.)
  • Promote awareness of cultural diversity and respect for human differences
  • Empower young men and women to realize and embrace their inner beauty and self worth
  • Provide financial assistance for post high school education

Young men and women currently enrolled in high school may compete for scholarship money.  Participants of this program  must live or attend school in the First Coast of Florida area (e.g., Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties).  Orientation with parents and participants will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m.

Scholarships

The following scholarships are available for both male or female participants. Universal Teen – $2,000*; Second Place – $1,000*; Third Place – $750*; Fourth Place – $500* *Scholarship recipients are required to send a scholarship “request” letter to the organization along with a college acceptance letter. Scholarships are made available in the name of both the participant and the college of which they have been accepted. Mr. or Miss Universal Teen must attend selected WOCCF functions.

Tween USA

The objectives are to:

  • Provide a forum to teach life skills (e.g., self awareness, financial management, basic research and communication skills).
  • Empower young men and women to realize and embrace their inner beauty and self worth

Eligibility Criteria

Young men and women currently enrolled in middle school may compete. Participants of this program must live or attend middle school in the First Coast of Florida area (e.g., Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties). Orientation with parents and participants will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m.

The following awards will be given:

Tween USA’ – $500 and trophy; Second Place – $250 and trophy; Third Place – $100 and trophy; Forth Place – $50 and trophy

Certificate of Participation to each participant.

Children With Class

Teen 2014

 Children with Class Application 2016‘Children with Class’ is an educational program established by the Women of Color Cultural Foundation, Inc.(WOCCF).  The purpose of the program is to provide a supportive and congenial environment for self-awareness and positive self-esteem. It also promotes self-confidence, poise, and effective communication skills.

The objectives are to:

  • Provide a forum to teach self-awareness and positive self-esteem.
  • Empower young boys and girls to realize and embrace their inner beauty and self-worth.
  • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Boys and girls currently enrolled in Pre-K to 5th grade may compete.  Orientation with parents and participants to be scheduled will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 12:00 -1:00 p.m.

Participants are expected to attend practice sessions.  Master or Miss Child with Class will be selected on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Ritz Theatre &  LaVilla Museum, Jacksonville, Florida.

AWARDS

The following cash awards will be given:

    • Child with Class -$200 and trophy
    • Second Place-$100 and trophy
    • Third Place-$50 and trophy

Trophies will be given to:

  • Best Attire (Play or School Wear and Formal Dress wear)
  • Top Model Look
  • Top Sales Personality 

Certificate of Participation to each participant.

 

“Toddlers with Class” Fashion Show provides a supportive and congenial environment for positive self-image.

The 2015 Toddlers with Class Fashion Show includes 13 months to 3 years old children competing for the title of “Toddler with Class”There are no pre-scores.  On the night of the performance, the contestants will receive points in the following categories:

  • Play wear attire [Photo]
  • Best Dress attire

The following awards will be given:

The contestant who accumulates the most points will be crowned “Toddler with Class” receiving the 1st place Trophy, Crown and Sash.  Awards for other contestants are as follows 2nd place Trophy; 3rd place Trophy; and 4th place Trophy.

ABC Breast Health Summit

ABC Breast Health Summit teaches women about prevention, detection, treatment

The Women of Color Cultural Foundation is proud to co-host the Annual ABC Breast Health Summit in Florida in October every year. The event, co-sponsored by the Mayo Clinic, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida focuses on educating women about prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Participants gain a better understanding of the health disparities that exists among African American, Black, Hispanics and other women of Color (ABC). It features keynote speakers from Mayo physicians from various states across the nation, as well as a panel of experts from Mayo Clinic in Florida’s Breast Clinic. In addition, participants are honored with beautiful testimonies from survivors of breast cancer.

September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance

Begin your day of rememberance by joining us at the Metro Park.  Bring a Hand, Bring a Can:  help to assemble care packages, plant sunflowers, bag groceries to feed those in need.

Volunteers are collecting items to place in military care packages to ship to active duty military personnel overseas – please donate handwriting appreciation letters, Kleenex Tissues (travel packs), Lip Balm/Chap Stick, Body Wash, Liquid Soap, Facial Cleanser, Hair Gel (for female troops to pull hair back), Combs/Brushes, Deodorant, Hand Sanitizer, Shaving Cream in Tubes, Hand & Body Lotion/Moisturizer, Sunblock, Bug Spray/Skin-So-Soft, Mouthwash, Breath Strips, Nail files/Emery Boards/Nail Clippers, Feminine Hygiene Products, Gel Shoe Insole Cushions, Tylenol, Motrin, Advil or Aspirin Packets (Please check expiration dates), Eye Drops (i.e. Visine), Nasal Spray, tooth brush, toothpaste, Puzzle Books.

In addition, letters of appreciation addressed to police officers, firefighters, military personnel, and veterans.

Ebony & Ivory Gala

The Ebony & Ivory Gala is a black-tie affair which recognizes women who have made significant contributions in health, education, and economic development. In addition, a community service agency and a distinguished couple are recognized for their outstanding contributions in the community. Proceeds from the Gala support scholarships and various community initiatives including the activities of the Foundation.

Health Symposium for People of All Nations

Also known as, Speaking of Women’s Health.  The purpose of this health symposium is to decrease the health gap that exists between minorities and the general public. Participants will receive information from various health care experts on engaging in a healthier life style including the importance of having routine health screenings.

OBJECTIVES

The Health Symposium for People of All Nations/Speaking of Women’s Health will:

  • Raise an awareness of health disparities that exist nationwide.
  • Provide participants with expert knowledge on various health topics.
  • Inform participants that taking preventive measures (e.g., routine health exams) can reduce the chances of having major health challenges.
  • Educate participants on the importance of keeping an open line of communication with their health care provider.

Adolescents Choosing Excellence (ACE)

ACE is an initiative to educate and energize youth from youth-based organizations, aged 8-18, on becoming advocates for physical activity, healthy nutrition, decreased total screen time, prolong abstinence, avoid tobacco and alcohol consumption. ACE is an initiative to educate and energize youth on becoming advocates for their health.

Goals:

  1. Fun event to equip youth to engage in positive lifestyles.
  2. Teach youth how to lead a healthy lifestyle by incorporating:
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical Activity
  • Abstinence
  • Tobacco and alcohol avoidance
  • Financial literacy and budgeting

Thus reducing risks for further health complications.

This event requires preregistration of groups of youth.

Ebony & Ivory Awards Nomination Deadline

It’s time again to select nominees for the Ebony and Ivory Awards.  The Awards are given to women who have made a significant impact in the area of health, education, and economic development. The award competition is open to individuals in the Greater Jacksonville area. We encourage nominations from women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership or made an outstanding contribution in health, education, or economic development. An independent panel of judges selects the winners from the information submitted.

In addition, a community service agency receives an award and monetary gift. The agency is selected based upon their efforts to foster social equity in the area of health, education or economic development.

Heart of a Woman Luncheon – Nassau County

2015 HW Flyer The Heart of a Woman is a great event for learning about cardiovascular health.  Women and men attired in beautiful red eat a heart healthy lunch and learn about preventing and treating heart disease. We aim to make women more aware of the major risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease including obesity, physical inactivity, high blood pressure and diabetes. Education on heart disease is given by a variety of experts including cardiologists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and others. Participants learn a lot about women’s risk for developing heart disease and heart attack. Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women?  Heart disease is the leading cause of death among African American and Hispanic women. Plan to attend each year to stay knowledgeable about current ways to maintain your heart’s health.
